A functional home office is the new necessity this decade as more and more people work, at least part of the time, from home.
As is often the case, this home office space is located through French doors off the foyer and is therefore one of the first rooms seen when entering this home.
Our clients needed it to be functional…with dedicated workstation space for one and optional space for a second workstation, as well as doubling occasionally as a quiet retreat space to watch TV or read.
They also wanted it to be pretty, as it is in a prominent and visible location near the front door.
Having recently moved in, they were working in the space using a series of folding tables for desk and storage space….to say it was less than optimal is an understatement?!
We were able to check all the boxes with this custom designed office.

We designed built-ins to wrap two sides of the room with symmetrical cabinetry that included workstations, storage, and bookshelves.
Careful planning yielded easily accessible file storage, a pullout drawer for the shredder, a printer area, a TV on an articulating arm, keyboard drawers, hidden outlet bars to coral cords, office supply storage, and plenty of book and display space.

A pair of wall sconces over the main workstation area provides both ambient light and perfect illumination for video calls.
Using the color palette we established for the main floor of the home, the office sports rich blue cabinetry with brushed gold hardware and soft celery green walls. Fabrics combine various shades of blue, green and aqua

A new tweed chair and ottoman by the front window is the perfect comfortable spot to read or watch the TV that is tucked into the cabinetry in the opposite corner.
A neutral wool tweed carpet is a sophisticated way to add softness underfoot.
Window valances in a Jacobean floral disguise the two different heights of the windows whilst adding softness and style, and top-down-bottom-up shades provide functional light control.
The sunny new office is now an elegant and inspiring place to work or relax AND provides a pretty view from the foyer.
