Summer blues….summer seems to call for the color blue! Perhaps because it is reminiscent of sky and water and vacation destinations for cooling off in summer. Cool blues are a perfect way to beat the heat!
One of our favorite rich blue paint shades from Benjamin Moore is…drumroll please…
Van Deusen Blue
Blue paint can be tricky. If the hues are too pure, they can be quite tiring. Pastels can be cloyingly sweet and scream baby boy nursery, and large swaths of deeper pure hues can be blindingly neon, which is usually not what we are striving for. But a more complex blue can be so beautiful. Blues are thought of as calming colors and in the right shades they definitely work!
As a bonus, blue rooms create a perception of cool so that they actually feel cooler than rooms painted in warmer colors. That is certainly good news for summer months and warmer climates!
If you are looking for a vibrant yet sophisticated shade of blue, look no further! Van Deusen Blue with its tiny hint of gray-green, pairs beautifully with paler blues, deeper blues, and all kinds of shades of greens, taupes, and creamy yellows.
Use deep blue in gloss for an accent piece of furniture or a library full of built-ins for a sophisticated look.
Use it for millwork or kitchen or pantry cabinets for a beautiful old world elegance paired with rich wood tones and warm marble, or a fresh coastal feel paired with sparkling whites and grays .
Or add it to a ceiling or accent wall to make white trim details pop.
Van Duesen Blue also makes an excellent front door color for a classic cape style house that is clad in white clapboard or weathered gray cedar shingles
I hope you are enjoying your summer blues!
