Spring is almost, maybe, sort of, around the corner! Yippee! And the colors of spring are starting to appear everywhere, from the flowers at the market, to the catalogs in my mailbox.
The colors of early spring in nature around here tend to be mud puddle brown and melting slush gray for about a month…
but there are hopeful signs of spring forcing its way through!
I just cut forsythia branches yesterday and brought them indoors to force so I can hopefully rush the season a tiny bit - I’ve succeeded with this in years past, but I may have jumped the gun a bit this year, we’ll see.
But let’s look at some options for bringing a much needed dose of spring into our decor! (All paint colors listed are from Benjamin Moore).
Spring Yellows
In honor of the aforementioned forsythia, and daffodils, and early buttercups of spring - here is some yellow inspiration. Yellow pairs beautifully with a variety of shades of green as well as pinks and peaches. This living room adds a dose of a minty green alongside the yellows and a dash of bright pink in the botanical artwork.
A touch of black and a dose of leopard print are ALWAYS appropriate and here help ground all the pastel colors.
Spring Pinks
Pink is a versatile spring color that is celebrated in the arrival of cherry blossoms. Ranging from warm ballet pinks to cooler raspberry pinks, it’s not just a color for little girls with a princess complex - as evidenced by this sophisticated pink dining room by the unparalleled Bunny Williams. Here she pairs shades of pink with rich wood tones and a graphic rug featuring taupe.
Spring Greens
The most obvious spring color is green. Natures neutral, green works beautifully with pretty much every other color. Here, Tobi Fairley masterfully uses a variety of shades of crisp greens with white and sets them off against an ecru backdrop.
Spring Corals
Coral and Peach are gorgeous spring colors. These warm and flattering colors make everything glow.
This breathtaking room by Marshall Watson is nearly 20 years old and still looks as timeless as ever. Such is the power of classic design. The gorgeous architecture and hand painted de Gournay wallpaper doesn’t hurt either! The coral walls are set off by cream millwork, green upholstery, and warm brass and wood tones.
Bring on spring! But in the meantime make a little spring INSIDE with these luscious spring colors.
