It’s that time of year - the unofficial start of fall that September and Labor Day ushers in.
I know the calendar says it is still summer for 3 more weeks, and while I love the long days and warmth of the summer season, there is something enticing about the fresh start of fall.
Back to school season is like a miniature New Year’s reset.
Add to that sweater weather and the gloriousness of autumn in New England and I’m here for all the best parts of it.
Local orchards offering hot cider donuts, an opportunity to redecorate for the season, and our legendary colorful foliage almost make up for the shorter days.
I’m currently working from a chair on my back deck (accompanied by my chipmunk friend, aptly named Hoover) and I’m not quite ready to give up the summer flowerpots that are still going strong.
But I’m re-sharing some posts here with all the best decor and recipe ideas for autumn for some inspiration!
Apple Recipes for Fall
What could be more quintessentially fall than apples?? Here are our favorite apple recipes. All of these can be made gluten free if you substitute King Arthur Measure for Measure Gluten Free Flour in the recipes for the flour.
Here is our absolute favorite mile high apple pie recipe. We also live and die by the vodka crust recipe…We find it easier and faster than running to the store for a crust, but store bought Pillsbury crust (in the red box) works almost as well for this in a pinch (be sure to let it sit at room temperature a bit before unfolding so it doesn’t crack into pieces).
For a fall breakfast treat, or afternoon snack these apple muffins are just perfect with coffee (or tea!)
And this apple cake tartin with the caramelized top is an elegant snack or dessert cake fancy enough to serve for guests, or a delicious treat to have on hand for the household.
It will make any day into a celebration!
One of our favorite completely mindless apple desserts to throw together in a hurry is this apple dessert baked with a cookie crust topping.
Not quite a cobbler and not quite a crisp, you can have it in the oven in less than 20 minutes and most of that time involves peeling a pile of apples! Serve it warm with ice cream and you will be adored!
