I’m always drawn to textural things….embroidered fabrics, or plush soft velvets and chenilles, or nubby grasscloth immediately grab my attention like a squirrel spotting an acorn! And on our recent shopping trip to the Boston Design Center, natural textures abounded.
The entry to the Kravet showroom had these clever weathered wood and gunmetal occasional tables - shorthand, I presume, for “at Kravet”. Fun! They would be a real conversation starter in any space. Available in ampersand, hashtag, and letter shapes - imagine the possibilities for subliminal communication?! Their combination of textures sets a decidedly casual tone.

Texture adds so much to a space! In a neutral room, it is especially important to have the interplay of a variety of textures for visual and tactile interest.
The success of this neutral room by the incredibly talented Phoebe Howard, is in the use of texture. A planked and coffered painted ceiling is paired with grasscloth covered walls and a geometric woven sisal rug. Unlined textured linen window treatments and a caned chair layer more subtle texture into the space.
But ANY room benefits from the extra detail that texture brings to the party!
