Nothing beats the freshness of blue and green for a spring inspired space. Today we are sharing a peek at a project that puts the ‘fresh’ in refresh!
This newly built luxury town home living room has plenty of great features - generous spaces, high ceilings, large windows, and a gas fireplace. But even with new furnishings my clients had bought for the space, it still lacked the personality and elegance they sought.
As is common in new town homes, the living room is part of an open concept great room space.
Our plans include
A fireplace makeover with additional millwork and a bold accent color to draw attention to the fireplace and minimize the impact of the television above it.
A tray ceiling will be highlighted with a shimmery champagne metallic paint treatment.
Walls will be warmed from the chalk white builder paint to a friendlier neutral and an adjacent stair alcove will be painted a pale aqua blue accent color.
A rafia covered coffee table will be refreshed with new paint in a green accent shade.
But one of the most impactful changes will be adding sophisticated layers of fabrics that will introduce pattern and the fresh spring color palette from which all the other colors are drawn.
The windows and sliding door overlooking the back deck and yard are at different heights. Adding a single rod and floor to ceiling window treatments streamlines that difference.
The drapery hardware is finished in a wrought iron that echoes the stair balusters along the side of the space.
Every room needs a pattern that is the star of the show - we always select this first, then all the other fabrics are chosen as supporting cast members.
The exuberant botanical “star” fabric used for the draperies features stylized leaves, flowers, and pomegranates in varying shades of blue, aqua, and green. This palette carries over from the stunning foyer and office we recently completed (reveal coming soon!).
Ten foot floor to ceiling panels add warmth and life while emphasizing the gracious proportions of the room. Existing window shades means the draperies can be stationary, but generous width panels are needed to not look skimpy at that height.
Coordinating fabrics will be used in other ways around the room. A gorgeous embroidered leaf pattern will become pillows to elevate the look of two blue club chairs, and a multi-stripe woven in blues and greens will reupholster a bench.
In addition to these fabrics, textures of buttery ribbed chenille and paisley velveteen will enliven the expanse of blue sectional. And stunning blue and green trims from wide embroidered tape, to cording, to variegated brush fringe will all be used for a custom, luxurious finish.
I can’t wait to see this all come together for them!
I am all in for #teamblueandgreen to create a refreshing elegant space! How about you?
