Recently, we have been investigating living room tables...that backbone of creating a functional living space...a place to put your drink, or book, or remote control, or table lamp, or whatever makes the room work for you!

We have come across an interesting variety of cocktail, end, wine, and console tables.  Many have a mix of finishes that make them not only interesting pieces, but a nice opportunity to tie in other elements in the room for a more cohesive feel without the boredom of 'matched to death' suites of furniture.

We LOVE the mix of metal and wood and finishes on this cocktail table:

With a patterned walnut top, gilded ogee edge, and antiqued silver metal legs and stretchers, it adds elegant soft lines without being fussy.

And we adore the rich mix of antiqued etched brass on the surfaces and gilded accents on the banded edges and legs of this metal lamp table:

Then there is the carved wood mixed with a brass inlaid map of this side table that evokes images of paneled libraries and smoking jackets...

The mix of painted and stained finishes is an ever popular way to add interest and works well as long as it is not overused in any given room.  This side table is a well done version with a carved black painted pedestal base and a stained top mixing detail and simplicity:

These smaller martini or wine (or pick your favorite beverage!) side tables have stylish finishes - eglomise mirror top with antiqued silver frame and legs, faux limestone top and base with an espresso stained pedestal, an intricate etched top pedestal table, and a simple black metal table with a brass accent in a gallery rail:

And last, but not least, these metal finished tables; a glass and metal campaign style end table in an antique bronze finish with antique brass accents, and this embossed metal console table with arched metalwork legs reminiscent of architectural ironwork balustrades.
