Cosmic Cobalt Veranda Color of the Year 2025

Earlier this fall, Veranda Magazine announced their color of the year for 2025 as Cosmic Cobalt. Unlike the paint company color of the year announcements, this color is not tied to a product, so it has a bit more range for interpretation than say,  a can of paint.

Veranda cited the universal appeal of gazing into the night sky or the deep blue sea, both calming and captivating.

I have a bit of nostalgia for cobalt blue as it was the color of my cheerleading uniform for my jr. high and high school years.😏

’True blue’ speaks to loyalty and stability, and as one of the most prevalent colors of nature, it is an enduring classic alongside the ever-friendly members of the green family.

Royals have gravitated toward cobalt blue for ages as it commands dignified attention.

According to Veranda, a ‘pop of blue’ has usurped a ‘pop of red’ as the must have for every room.  I don’t know that I totally agree with a ‘pop’ of anything….I despise that hackneyed phrase…though I so often say every room could use a touch of black, so the sentiment holds, if not the wording!

In any case, here are some of the ways to use this color boldly in your interiors.

Paint

If you LOVE it, go all in with walls, ceiling, and trim all lacquered in a bold cobalt for classy drama.

Or if a smaller dose is more your speed, try an accent wall like this one where the dark blue helps camouflage the TV and highlight the mantel in our Rhapsody in Blue new build project.

In cabinetry, pair it with crisp white for a coastal freshness that washes like a sea breeze. Cool blues pair beautifully with the balance of warm brass tones.
