Custom design offers endless possibilities for gorgeous details! Here we are sharing a few inspired custom touches from projects we have done over the years and showroom sightings.
Upholstery and Slipcover Details
This custom oval tufted ottoman was designed for the seating area in a master bedroom and built for us to our specifications by our beloved upholstery workroom. We created it to nestle in front of a curved loveseat and serve as both footstool and coffee table. The fabric is an embroidered linen and it is embellished with braid applied in a scalloped pattern and finished with this luxurious knotted tassel bullion fringe.
This chair was a vintage family piece that we had reupholstered in this bright blue velvet with kiwi green welting for a lively, fun piece that perfectly suits the colorful personality of our client!
Frog closures are a special custom detail on the corner pleats of this sofa spotted in a showroom at the Design Center
I am a sap for covered buttons! Here they add an elegant detail to a tailored corner pleat on a sofa waterfall skirt
We had these skirted parson dining chairs recovered for a client’s kitchen eating area and added this inverted pleat detail with tabs and covered buttons to the backs. Dining chairs often have their backs on display so we like to be sure the backs have something worth displaying!
We found this pair of antique lyre back side chairs for this project and had custom chair pads with braid trim and ballet tassel ties made for the cane seats
Custom slipcovers transformed these plain dining chairs into something a bit more playful for their new home in this sunroom dining spot.
Leg Details
If chairs wore jewelry, this one would be wearing an ankle bracelet! A contrasting inlay is a tiny but impactful detail on the legs of this chair
Little brass feet on the tapered legs of this upholstered chair add an elegant touch…shiny shoes!
Millwork Details
We designed this custom inlay pattern for the new wood floors in this foyer. The design echoes the inlay detail on the demilune chest
Trim Details
I’ve never met a trim I didn’t love. Trim is an art form all its own and it adds so much as an embellishment to soft goods like window treatments, custom pillows, bedding, and accessories
Crystal beaded trim sparkles in the window on the edge of these silk window treatments. This was the perfect finish for our client’s bedroom windows in this city condo overlooking the Boston Public Garden
Subtle multicolor tassel trim is a soft elegant finish for the silk and linen watercolor print window treatments
Pleated striped ribbon trim in shades of blue and green finishes the edges of this paisley jacquard lumbar pillow
Multicolor chenille and ribbon loop fringe finishes the edge of this linen and velvet appliqué and embroidery patterned pillow
Drapery panels with blue tassel trim
A micro flanged edge is pleated around the corners of these silk appliquéd pillows
Ivory pleated pillow is framed with a crimson flanged edge detail and matching covered buttons; a red trellis fabric pillow is embellished with a complimentary tape trim and flanged border.
A custom hand-smocked lampshade is given a little glamour with metallic trim and beading

Sapphire blue sycamore veneers, glossy black frame, and antique brass base and hardware combine to make up this sophisticated modern cabinet piece
Detail matter. They are the difference between something ordinary and something extraordinary!
