Decorating for these Times
Decorating your home is about to become really important! It is likely that you and your family are going to be spending some quantity, if not quality, time there in the near future if you aren’t already. And now that your home has some new additions from your latest buying spree, let’s look at this new and unexpected era of decorating.
Decorating with Hand Sanitizer
If you were forward thinking enough, or at least a perennial germaphobe, you were able to get your hands on some of this:
And if you are one of the many HGTV devotees that painted your entire world gray sometime in the last 8 years because all the cool kids were doing it, this is your shining moment. This dispenser will blend right into your decor…hopefully you chose the right SHADE of gray. Yes, it’s institutional looking, but maybe the camouflage of a gray room will help. Or, alternatively, you could flaunt your visionary genius by mounting it on a contrasting coordinated wall of Purell Blue (Benjamin Moore match is Evening Blue 2066-20).
Decorating with Disinfectant Wipes
Or perhaps you are one of the many people responsible for the rush on disinfecting wipes. If you are able, choose your brand carefully, as each will dictate a different accent color for your rooms. A cohesive element always helps your decor flow from room to room - usually it is color that relates the spaces, but in this new world order perhaps it will be your artfully displayed plastic container of Lysol or Clorox wipes instead.
Decorating with Hand Soap
There is much more decorative freedom with hand soap as there are so many options available, and frequent and thorough hand washing using friction, water and soap, is the number one way to protect against the spread of germs. Apparently humming “Happy Birthday” twice helps as well, although any 20 seconds worth of music will do. I prefer liquid soap for ease of use and less soap scum, and you can even decant it into decorative dispensers that match your room decor. Bonus points for a decorative tissue box cover to match! This Lemongrass-Ginger is a favorite of ours, and pairs beautifully with our kitchen colors of spring greens.

Decorating with Toilet Paper
True confessions: the last time I decorated with toilet paper was when we TP’d our least favorite professor’s yard in college on Halloween one year. Much more recently, however, SOMEONE or several someones, and I have no idea why, wiped out the TP aisles of all the stores setting off a nationwide TP panic buying spree of epic proportions. My friend Jeri Cerruti recently quite accurately coined this a “flush mob” :-). And circumstances may become dire quite soon for those that have a pantry stocked with beans and legumes and an inability to find toilet paper. If you are one of the lucky few with a 3 year supply, you can flaunt your TP wealth by artfully arranging it in your farmhouse bathroom (the do’s and don’ts of farmhouse style can be found HERE. This bathroom would fall in the don’t category):
And just imagine all the Pinterest toilet paper roll crafts you’ll be able to do with the kids in the coming weeks…
