Market Stalls at the Boston Design Center

A quick errand downtown had us stopping in for a whirl through the Market Stalls at The Boston Design Center today. The Market Stalls, on the second floor of the BDC, contain an ever changing display of unique finds and antiques from a handful of dealers and are always worth a visit!

Here is a quick recap of some of the things that caught our eye at the Market Stalls today:

Accessories

I have no idea what’s going on in these images on this screen, t…but it was a very cool piece!

A stack of monogrammed leather suitcases and a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. If your initials are SMA it has your name on it. Literally!

Vintage barware and serving pieces

As a person with an obsession for all beautiful serving pieces, this intricate four tier stand with metal plates captured my heart. Can’t you just see this on an afternoon tea table laden with miniature scones and tea cakes?

How fun are these vintage ‘celebration” shot glasses? A little small at about 3/4” diameter…but still fun!

Furnishings

To go with all that fabulous glassware, how about this circa 1925 French Art Deco Bar Cabinet by Editions AV in black with gilded detailing? The interior features a red eglomise serving surface, ice bin, holders for glasses and stirrers, and glass shelves.

The taupe painted finish on this pretty French oak glass doored cabinet really lightens and tones down the formality on this piece.

Now THAT’s a statement piece! Love it or hate it this orange lacquered bombe chest will own the room! Personally, I think it’s a great contemporary adaptation of a very traditional form…it would be gorgeous as an accent piece in a navy and white room

Artwork

This alcove contained several sets of beautifully framed prints ideal for an art wall. Just imagine how striking these would be against a dark colored wall!

Lighting

There were a lot of light fixtures here today…and they ranged from gorgeous to interesting to …let’s just say, intriguing (which is my favorite code word for “What the heck even IS that???” Here is a sampling:

This graceful and elegant polished nickel Regency Pavilion lantern, would be wonderful in a foyer, a powder room, or over a breakfast table!

Oddities

And finally, for the weight obsessed person who has everything,

an antique jockey weighing chair! Fascinating, but don’t count on it being terribly popular with your dinner guests!
