Just a quick post to introduce the new and improved Fitzgerald Tile showroom! The huge warehouse and showroom recently moved from their long-time digs on Commerce Way in Woburn to a swank new space just a few minutes to the north on Concord Street in North Reading. The company was founded in the 1950’s and moved to the Woburn site in 1978 where they became a favorite source for local designers and contractors. The new showroom is now all on one level and with huge windows reaching up to the 20 ft ceiling, it is flooded with sunlight.

We were visiting recently to select some tile options for the finishes we were specifying for a new white (of course?!) kitchen in a property flip. We were looking for a neutral backsplash tile that would work well with the quartz counters we had selected from the options in the right price range.

When selecting anything where color is important, whether it is paint, stone, tile, or fabric, it is imperative that you have a light source that doesn’t skew the color. The daylight flooding the new showroom made the process much easier and more pleasant!

We ended up with tile samples from 4 different vendors and selected a few patterns in a variety of scales; subway, herringbone, hex, and an arabesque shape that is currently popular. We also took into consideration the edge options since there will be one exposed edge at the end of a run of counter. All the options we selected were porcelain tile.

I liked both herringbone options for the classic timelessness of the pattern and the interesting texture it provides. The small white 1” x 2” herringbone would be pretty with a light gray grout and add a lot of style for the cost. This option would be finished with a Schluter edge on the exposed end. The 1’ x 4” marble look herringbone in a matte finish was also beautiful and elegant. Ultimately, the developer decided on the 3” x 12” matte finish subway tile to be set in a running bond pattern. The exposed edge will be finished with a 1/4 round trim tile strip.

The finished kitchen will be the perfect Pinterest white kitchen - sunny, timeless, and elegant and absolutely the right design direction for this particular investment property. We are looking forward to seeing it completed!
