Christmas Decorating Ideas - Sneak Preview
We are getting ready for our upcoming whirlwind of holiday decorating installations, and our inventory area is jam-packed with possibilities for the various projects we have on the calendar! Here is a sneak preview of some of the decor we have planned.
In order to fit them all in, our first installation is before Thanksgiving! We’ll begin with a Bed and Breakfast Inn in an updated antique Victorian on the coast of Maine.
Christmas Decor at the Inn
We are changing up the decor slightly for the inn this year. A few new additions will freshen the decor we used last year. We’ll keep the peacock color scheme and ornaments that we used in the living room last year but add a new tree topper. Here are the options we gave the innkeeper to choose from…Which do you think she’ll select?
Our second installation is for the Concord Holiday House Tour. We are honored to be asked to be a participating designer for one of the houses on the tour this year! We will be creating the Christmas decor for the main floor rooms in a sprawling antique colonial gentleman’s farm filled with family heirlooms, an extensive art collection, and eclectic decor.
Christmas Decor for the Concord Holiday House Tour
The tour is a fundraiser for the Concord Museum, which is a local treasure and fantastic educational resource. In addition to the Holiday House Tour, the museum also hosts a Christmas tree display at the museum itself where dozens of decorated trees are on display for the season - each sponsored and decorated by a group or individual and each based on a different children’s book. If you live in the area it is DEFINITELY worth a visit!
But back to the house tour…We have some really fun things planned for this wonderfully unique home! Inspired by the collection of instruments and the grand piano, the main living room with have an elegant music theme.
The foyer will feature a lavishly garlanded bannister as well as tiny Christmas stockings from the homeowners collection crafted from fine antique textiles by Becky Vizard of B Viz Design Atelier in NOLA. The dining room, with its birch wallpaper wainscoting and blue and white porcelains, inspired a blue and white woodland theme. As one of the generous tour sponsors, Mahoney’s in Concord offered the featured designers gift certificates to purchase some items for our spaces. We had fun on our first visit through and procured something PERFECT for our woodland table! We will also be using this fabulous vintage horn handled flatware given to me last year, and these very cool birch and metal leaf branches we unearthed from one of our trade vendors!
We are also decorating the sunny, book-lined library, the powder room, and the rear entry at the house and we have some surprises planned for that too! The tour takes place on Saturday, December 7th between 11am and 4pm. For Concord Holiday House Tour tickets and more information, click HERE
More Christmas Decor
Our final two installations are at Assisted Living centers, where experience tells us the residents not only enjoy the final decor, but also the entertainment of watching us install it! Between them we will decorate 4 trees, 10 wreaths, 3 foyers, 4 fireplaces, a 3 story stairwell, and an atrium garden room! Spaces will include themes like winter wonderland, white Christmas, nutcracker’s “sweets”, and Santa’s workshop to name a few! We’ve spray painted some of the oversized grapevine and rope stars to hang from the ceiling in our Winter Wonderland atrium amid large snowflakes, and one of the White Christmas trees will feature these fat cardinals and snow crusted berries!
I won’t even show you the piles of stuff - it’s not all that photogenic in its boxes and bins and with all the breakables wrapped up in paper! But we have probably 1000 yds of ribbon, cases of pine cones , boxes and stems of faux fruit, berries, and branches, faux greens, wreaths, trees, ornaments, snowflakes, candlesticks, candles, deer of all sizes, nutcrackers, sleighs, boxes, wrapping paper…the list goes on and on…I think we even have Santa’s boots and a mailbox under there somewhere! And Monday we are off to the wholesale greenhouses for poinsettias, fresh cut greens, wreaths, and garlands!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
