A Day in the Life
There is no such thing as a typical day in the life of an interior designer. Which may be precisely why I love it so much - it is NEVER boring!
Most days start with checking and responding to emails and texts and putting out any fires that started early in the day! After that it's anybody's guess. We may have meetings scheduled with new clients, or site visits to do on a project under construction, or presentation meetings with ongoing clients, or all three. We probably have layouts or drawings to do, or shopping and product research for a project, or pricing, ordering and scheduling to do, or to solve a new problem or meet a request...did you know you can get a center shower drain that is almost invisible? We have to fix the inevitable problems that crop up to keep the project going smoothly for the client...the aforementioned drain is needed in time for the plumber...and it's in stock - yay. BUT the pick up desk is closed for inventory so we can't have it. REALLY?? Or the pallet of tile arrived aaaaand it's someone else's order entirely even thought the paperwork is right. Or the furniture is shipping imminently and now we need to line up all the installers for the big day which is a bit like herding cats.
We are like the proverbial swans; serenely and gracefully floating on the surface and paddling like mad underneath!
It's always an adventure, and when the project is done and the client is delighted, it is all worthwhile...kind of like childbirth. Painful, but totally worth it and soon forgotten when we bask in the glow of a successful outcome and the knowledge we have made someone's life better.
